Please come to WHS Open House, Tuesday, Oct 26, 2014: 6:00 pm Q&A with Dr. Chiprany, 6:30 pm General Meeting, 7:00 pm follow your student's schedule.
In another week, most students will be read to start internships - first day Sept 2, 2014. Students completed the third and final group project in the building process of learning the research process and getting ready for their independent research project. I owe them a lot of grading this weekend ... and we will as a class assess the latest project to take advantage of the opportunity to critically look at the concept map, the problem and subproblems/hypothesis/plan. By the end of the week, I expect most students to have a good idea of how to go about producing the "big binder" - 3+ inches of an executed research project at a level many college students won't reach.
I hope to see parents at Open House, 8/26/14, 6:00 pm for Q&A with Dr. Chiprany, 7:00 pm for following your student's course schedule.
After the first two weeks of research, most students are focusing on interviews and obtaining an internship that will facilitate their research project. In terms of research, they have learned the 8-step process of scientific research, as well as APA citations and formatting. Over the next week, students will work in a small groups to study an epidemiology project of interest to their group. They will research the topic individually and as a group, form 3-4 subquestions, along with hypotheses and plans, and create an overarching research question. Using both powerpoint and a poster, students will present this work from question through the concept map.
