Surveys:
For those of you working on surveys, here is a link to more information about surveys.

The class will be doing different assignments today.  If you are assigned a partner to work on a survey together, use the resources about to learn about creating a survey.  Work together to create a first draft of the one person's survey.  Consider demographics (control for variables) and the wording of the questions. Your TOTD is a link to the first draft of the survey.  Next Wednesday, students doing surveys will run pilot studies using class members as test subjects.

If you are assigned a partner to work on data tables, each of you will work independently to begin with. Choose one of your partner's applied subproblems in their concept map and write the hypothesis.  Note the independent and dependent variables.  On the index card, create a summary data table that has exactly the measured/calculated data information as column or row headers needed to support or not support the hypothesis.  Create a second table, the Collected Data Table.  The column and row headers should indicate what your partner will actually collect in terms of data.  When you are both finished, swap index cards.  Was your partner able to articulate the summary and collected data tables you plan?  If not, why?  Use this to fix wording if necessary and to create the empty data tables for your proposal's applied SP.

Before the end of class, take the TOTD linked below.
Data Table Ticket out the Door:  Must be taken by the end of class.

Survey/Paperwork Ticket out the Door: Must be taken by the end of class.

So we have 4 activities to get done today on a rotating basis.  Note as you create a research concept map and look at examples, you are the first class that is calling basic research "foundational research" and a "foundational research SP."  Additionally, you are required to answer that SP question with a 2-3 sentence summary.  Applied SPs are question-hypothesis-data plan (criteria to collect data including measurment tool.)

1.  Meet with me per research paperwork group.  I'll give you your groupings.

2.  Use backwards design to give me a first draft of a possible research concept map (on paper.)

3. Take a Socrative Quiz.  Class code is AH3YWYTFX.  Enter your name as Last name, First name.

4.  Look at examples of research concept maps, take some notes, and complete a survey.
