Robots: What do they mean?

Picture
After last weeks presentations on Robots, there was one main point that stood out to me about Robots. They have an amazing ability to help people. we have the capability to make robots that let disabled people sleep, talk, even walk around and do tasks that allow them to have a job. What we need to do now, is make this amazing technology in a way that the people who really need it, but do not have the money, can get the robotic things they need to start having a life again.

TED Talk: The Beginning of Computers

Many people believe that computers are a brand new thing, and in a way that is true. In the centuries that humans have been around, we have only had computers, in the sense that we know, for a very short time. However, it goes back to before many people think. As the man in the TED talk said, the idea for computers was developed in 1945. But, the people decide that it was not a good investment, which we now know is not true. He went on to talk about the use of the first computer, and the journals the scientists kept.
It is amazing to me that people in a brand new field would continue trying to code something that they kept getting wrong. Who would decide it was impossible? Apparently not the first scientists who coded the computer. They would spend all night coding, and finding a problem, and recoding until something forced them to stop. That, to me, means more the the technology itself, and when we use computers, we should remember the amazing amounts of time and energy spent to get a fraction of the work done that we can do with a tap of our finger.

Smart Manufacturing

Wallstreet: We can now use technology to do most of the things to stop or even prevent a problem
Camps:  Camp 1) Manufacturing Does not matter
Camp 2) Manufacturing does matter, but taxes and government are in the way.
Camp 3) Manufacturing is important, and we must get the planet ready for and because of it.
I put myself into camp three
Rethinking Robots: People who are afraid of Robots are generally not college educated
Work Force of Tomorrow: There will always be a human involved in manufacturing.

TED Talk Summary

Ponte della Maddalena

Picture
This bridge, located in Borra A Mozzano, Italy, has three arches over the water, and one half in the water and half on land. It spans the Serchio River, and is made from stone. In English, it means, "Bridge of Mary Magdalene." It is called this because of the statue Mary that used to reside at the eastern end of the bridge. of It was most likely commissioned by Countess Matilda of Tuscany during the Medieval period. In 1836, the bridge had to be repaired after being damaged in a flood. In the early 1900s, a new arch was added to the bridge, so it does not have the original design.
