The Intro to CAD Unit is a 10-day unit (so for our skinny classes, it will take us 4 weeks.) We will also work on finishing up the speakers during the month of March and prepare for the STEAM Symposium.
The unit grade will be based on: finishing the class exercises (or the alternate project), the 3D printing project and a final CAD unit test on March 31/April 1.
The unit is organized as an essentially self-paced unit through a set of exercises that introduce you to CAD using Autodesk Inventor. Additionally, the Engineering Applications students have prepared two interactive Prezi presentations to give you an overview of some of the most useful commands.
During the second 5 days, you will also have an opportunity to design a 3D printed medallion or object that meets several design constraints. In this project, you will follow the entire engineering design process from concept through a standard drawing that is suitable for manufacturing to actually printing your 3D object.
Students who have prior experience or are very motivated to get through the class exercises quickly can also opt to sign a Learning Contract for a completely independent project of their choice. If this interests you, read through the attached document and follow the directions.
